Bright tin plating for hybrid connectors
Bright tin at SM Finishes is a solderable finish for hybrid connector tails and terminals, plated to ASTM B545 / MIL T 10727 when those callouts appear on the drawing. ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100:2015 from Machohalli, Bengaluru. Brightness is not a substitute for solderability testing.
Choose bright tin when the joint will be wave or reflow soldered and a shiny, readily wettable surface is specified. If the application is whisker-sensitive, compare with matte tin. Lead time is quoted from solder process, thickness, undercoat and whether gold is present on the same part.
Why Our Bright Tin Plating Stands Out
Our plating process integrates high-purity tin anodes, optimized bath chemistry, and controlled deposition rates to deliver coatings with exceptional surface brightness and uniformity. Whether you require tight thickness tolerances, excellent bonding, or reliable electrical performance, our expertise ensures results that exceed industry expectations.
- High reflectivity
- Enhanced solderability
- Uniform coverage
- Excellent corrosion
- Controlled thickness
- Precision Assemblies
Our commitment to quality means every component undergoes rigorous inspection, ensuring optimal conductivity, appearance, and durability in every application.
Precision & Craftsmanship
Every gold-plated component we deliver reflects our commitment to detail, combining advanced techniques with skilled workmanship to achieve flawless results every time
Applications
Bright tin plating is widely used in electronics, automotive connectors, aerospace hardware, decorative finishes, and precision-engineered components, providing both functional performance and visual appeal.
Bright tin process
We plate bright tin on copper-alloy contacts, often over a nickel barrier where the spec requires it. Bath chemistry and thickness are controlled to drawing. Our XRF lab includes RoHS / WEEE / ELV measuring heads. Confirm any customer-restricted substance list on the drawing — we process connector tin as a RoHS-suitable deposit (no intentional restricted RoHS substances in the tin layer).
If gold is present on the same part, gold on solder joints is usually kept off the tail or stripped. Tell us that in the RFQ so masking is quoted once. Automotive PPAP documentation is available when the programme needs it.
Applications — electronics, automotive and export connectors
Electronics and automotive hybrid connectors use bright tin on solder tails that will see wave, reflow or hand solder. Outdoor or high-humidity storage needs a defined window between plate and solder; Japanese and Taiwanese electronics OEMs often write that window on the print. We will confirm it against packing and logistics for export lots.
Industries: automotive (including PPAP programmes), industrial electronics, rail signalling connectors, and aerospace hardware where tin is the solderable finish rather than gold.
Barrel vs rack tin, and bright vs matte
Rack tin when tails and thickness must be held; barrel for bulk small terminals. Bright vs matte is a specification choice, not a cosmetic upsell: matte tin is preferred when residual stress and whisker risk are called out. Some housings want bright on visible terminals and matte on solder tails — that is two finishes.
Related: matte tin, nickel undercoat, gold on signal pins. Send solder process (wave/reflow/hand), maximum time between plate and solder, and annual volume with the drawing.
